Wickr’s consumer messaging app will be discontinued next year

Secure messaging platform Wickr is shutting down its consumer-facing app. In a spotted by announced it would stop accepting new Wickr Me registrations by the end of the year, before finally discounting the service altogether on December 31, 2023. The shutdown does not affect AWS and Enterprise versions of Wickr.

Before closing next year, Wickr said it would share information with users on how to store their data. Fortunately, alternatives aren’t hard to come by, with apps like Signal offering robust secure messaging.
