What Are Costco Doors And Do You Need One?

Moving house, home offices. There is a new feature homeowners are adding.

Meet the Costco door. It’s a simple yet brilliant concept that is going viral on TikTok and Instagram. What makes it so special? It’s a door in your garage that connects directly to your pantry, allowing you to move your shopping bags in the shortest possible distance. We shared a great example of a Costco door in another recent post.

For anyone who buys in bulk from retailers like Costco – hence the name – you know the feeling (and struggle) of having to carry your groceries through the kitchen to reach the pantry, then back to the garage to get the to get other bags.

The Costco door saves you both time and effort.

There is also a larger version. In the next video, user @stephaniebuildsit walks through a huge pantry with a regular sized Costco door. She warns, however, that the larger version would only be suitable for large pantry cabinets, because in a small pantry, the door would only take up space intended for shelves and storage.

It’s not for everyone, since Costco doors require a garage next to a kitchen (sorry, apartment dwellers), but for those who can install one, it’s so convenient. For example, it benefits seniors and people with disabilities. For others, it can prevent aches and pains in the long run.

“There is nothing I hate more than carrying heavy bags upstairs,” reads one comment. “This would be great for my back pain.”

And, as some users pointed out, it can also serve as a fire escape or secret door to a safe room.

“Perfect for a quick escape in the event of intruders,” said one user, while another added, “It can also lead to a safe room if positioned correctly.”

But don’t forget to close your Costco door, you don’t want raccoons using it as free access to an all-you-can-eat buffet.
