How to Create an Admission List in Gmail

Create a filter to create an admission list in Gmail. In the “From” field, enter a list of email addresses, separated by commas. Choose the “Never send to spam” action for the filter. Gmail always allows emails from the senders you specify and never sends them to spam.

If you find yourself fishing through your spam folder to find emails from non-spammers, there is a solution. You can create an allow list in Gmail that contains your safe senders.

You can prevent legitimate senders from going to spam one by one, which is useful for the current email you are viewing. But by creating a filter, you can add safe senders to a list in advance to prevent their emails from becoming spam in the future.

Create an allowed list filter in Gmail

You can create a filter for your admission list by using a current email or by setting up a brand new filter. Visit gmail on the web and sign in with your Google account to get started.

Create a filter from an email

When you read an email from a sender that you want to add to your admission list, you can create the filter and easily add other senders to it.

With the email in view, select the three dots for More on the top right. Choose “Filter messages like this” from the list.

You will then see a pop-up window with the sender’s email address in the From field. To add more people to the list, enter the email addresses separated by commas. When you’re done, click “Create Filter” at the bottom.

Then check the box for Never send to spam. Optionally, you can mark other actions and apply the filter to existing conversations in your inbox.

Edit a filter to add more safe senders

Once you have a filter for your admission list, you may want to add more people to it over time. Instead of creating another filter, you can simply update the existing one.

Select the gear icon in Gmail and choose “Show all settings” from the sidebar. Then go to the Filters and blocked addresses tab.

Select ‘Edit’ to the right of your filter for the allowed list.

Edit next to a filter

Enter the additional email addresses in the From field, separated by commas. Then select ‘Continue’.

You can also prevent a sender from being reported as spam in one-time situations. Select the Spam label from the menu on the left.

Creating an allow list in Gmail ensures that emails from your safe senders arrive in your inbox. For more information, see how to forward specific emails or how to tag and move emails. You can do both automatically with Gmail filters.
