An overview of the Amazon Basics enamelled cast iron casserole with lid

I have a red dutch oven so I have a red Amazon skillet to go with it. There’s also a cream, navy, orange, and teal — many of which are on sale at the time of writing. To my surprise when I first unpacked the skillet, the red was the same shade as my Dutch oven and looked like it came from the same set. The two look beautiful together all year round, but especially shine on holiday-themed tables.

The skillet is oven safe up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and works with all types of cooking surfaces, increasing versatility. Since the enamel is non-stick, I usually use it on the stovetop for stir-frying, sautéing vegetables, or crumbling taco meat. I also do a lot of one-pot meals. It’s also a very attractive and effective container for frittatas, especially since I can finish it in the oven and then put the whole skillet on the table without dirtying another serving bowl or plate.

Depending on what you’re making, the 3.3 liter size is perfect for main courses or side dishes. It can hold enough stir-fry or taco materials for a family of four, or a six to eight-egg frittata. It’s also big enough for sides or small stews you can take out for a potluck.

Cleaning cast iron skillets should be done by hand. I’ve soaked it in the sink for a while if there are bits of burnt casserole, but overall it wasn’t hard to get it clean with a little dish soap and scrubbing. I think it’s actually easier to clean than my dark bottom pans! After three years, the bright interior still looks like new and there are no cracks or chips to the exterior enamel.

Before using the Amazon Basics skillet I would have thought I’d need one of the more expensive cast iron or ceramic pieces to get such evenly cooked stews and meats, but this budget-friendly piece of cookware gets the job done and I don’t need you. feel guilty about the price. In fact, if I had spent hundreds of dollars on a skillet just cooking cowboy mac, I might think it wasn’t the best spend of my money. As it is, whatever I cook, from filet mignon (as my kids would!) to mac and cheese, I know I’ve made a great investment.
